Exactly one oil in our verified set carries an explicit food-grade claim — the ELBACOOL product states 100% food grade and NSF H-1 registered directly in its listing copy. The OEM VacMaster 978231 bottle makes no food-grade statement, and neither does the Robinair 13203, which is positioned for air-conditioning and refrigeration service.
An absent claim is not evidence of a hazard, and NSF H-1 covers incidental contact rather than ingestion. What it means practically is that only one of these sellers has put a registration behind the question.

Two listing quantities to verify
Both of these are ordering-quantity questions rather than product-performance questions, and each can be checked in the listing fields before ordering.
- The twelve-quart “single”. A second Robinair listing is titled “13203 Premium High Vacuum Pump Oil; 1 Quart (Single)” and its own bullet copy reads “Contains 12 Single Quart Bottles”, with an item count of twelve. It is the same oil as the single-quart listing we link, at twelve times the quantity. Check the quantity field, not the title.
- The one-foot “roll”. VacMaster’s seal bar tape is a single pre-cut one-foot strip, not a roll. Work out the length your seal bar needs and confirm the listed quantity before ordering.
- A contradiction worth confirming. The food-grade oil states both “1 gallon” and “31.95 fl oz” in different fields of the same listing. Those cannot both be true; confirm the volume on the product page.

Oil becomes a recurring purchase only on the two machines here that publish a rotary oil pump — an architecture both VacMaster records agree on even where their horsepower figures do not. The other six publish either a dry pump or no pump architecture at all, and where the architecture is unpublished the oil question cannot be answered from the record: ask the seller which pump is fitted before treating any bottle here as compatible. Where a machine takes oil, the change interval and the fill quantity are both machine-level figures — and on the one machine here with a published interval, VacMaster’s own manual gives the fill quantity twice, in two ranges that do not overlap.

What grade of oil does a chamber sealer pump take?
Oil grade sits at three levels of specificity, and only the narrowest one governs your machine. VacMaster answers at brand level and is explicit about it: “VacMaster chamber machines use 10W non-detergent, hydraulic oil”, published in its Help Center on April 13, 2020. At bottle level the record thins out — the VacMaster 978231 listing publishes a type, rotary-vane vacuum pump oil, and no ISO grade; the Robinair 13203 listing publishes premium high vacuum pump oil and no grade either; only the ELBACOOL listing states a grade, ISO VG 68 / SAE 30. Grade is a machine-level specification, so the manual that shipped with your machine settles it and this page does not override it.
How often should pump oil be changed?
The interval is a machine-level figure, and only the VacMaster VP215 carries one in the records retained here. The June 2024 VP215 user guide sets a first change one week after use, then a limit of 3 months or 250 cycles, whichever of the two arrives first. VacMaster’s Help Center restates the same interval in running hours in one April 13, 2020 article — 25 hours, then 60 — and, in a second article of that date, as roughly two changes a year. Because no source publishes a cycle length, the three cannot be reconciled, and the unit your own manual uses is the one that sets how often you reorder.
How much oil does a chamber vacuum sealer pump hold?
Fill quantity is machine-specific, and one manufacturer document does not agree with itself. VacMaster’s June 2024 VP215 user guide gives “approximately 9 to 9 1/2 ounces of oil” in its front section and “approximately 10 to 12 ounces of oil” in its how-to section — same document, two ranges that do not overlap.
