Pouches are the recurring cost of owning a chamber machine. A mismatched bag may seal badly, include channels the machine does not use, or arrive in a different quantity than the title appears to describe.
Every pouch below was retrieved from live Amazon listing data and re-verified against the product record on 2026-08-26. What follows is the compatibility work: which pouch widths each machine can actually seal, what the sellers do and do not disclose, and where a listing contradicts itself.

The rule that decides fit
A pouch is sealed along its mouth, and the mouth has to lie flat across the seal bar for its entire width. Sealing width is therefore a hard ceiling on pouch width, and it is a different number from chamber size. Both measurements must be checked independently.
Which pouch fits which machine
Read across your machine. Every cell is computed from two published figures — sealing width and, where the maker publishes one, usable chamber width — and the smaller of the two sets the limit. “No margin” means the pouch fits with under half an inch to spare, which is not enough tolerance for laying a bag down slightly crooked.

Smooth versus embossed, and why it matters
Chamber pouches are smooth-walled because a chamber machine does not need to pull air through the bag. The chamber and the pouch are evacuated together, pressure equalises, and the bar seals before air returns. An external sealer works the opposite way — it grips the bag mouth and sucks — so its bags need embossed channels for the air to travel along.
The pouches here carry statements like “NOT FOR FOOD SAVER”, “Compatible with chamber vacuum sealers only” and “smooth, clear sides” directly in their listing copy. If a bag listing does not say which architecture it is for, confirm compatibility before ordering.
The compatibility is asymmetric. A textured bag can seal in a chamber machine, but its channels are unused. A smooth chamber pouch in an external sealer does not evacuate at all.

Check current price at AmazonHow thick a pouch you need
Thickness across every chamber pouch we verified runs from 3 to 3.5 mil, and one seller states none at all.
- Heavier than 3.5 mil — only the VacMaster VP215 and VP230 state support for 3 to 7 mil Mylar and retort pouches. No other machine we track publishes a claim about heavy film at all.
These are specification analyses drawn from seller-published data, not results from a bench. We have not run puncture, seal-strength or temperature tests on these pouches. Where a claim comes from listing copy, this page attributes it to the seller rather than presenting it as our finding — and where a seller publishes nothing, the entry says so instead of estimating.
Fit summary
For a VacMaster VP215 or VP230, the OEM Temp Plus pouches are the one line here that publishes a cooking temperature, which matters if the pouch is going into a water bath. For everything else, the deciding factor is width: check your sealing width against the matrix above before you check anything else.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use FoodSaver bags in a chamber vacuum sealer?
You can seal one, but you are paying for a feature you cannot use. Embossed FoodSaver bags carry channels in the bag wall so an external sealer can draw air along them. A chamber machine evacuates the whole chamber at once, so those channels do nothing and the textured wall costs more per bag. The reverse substitution does not work: a smooth chamber pouch in a FoodSaver cannot provide the air channel an external machine needs.
How do I know if a pouch will fit my machine?
Compare the pouch width against your sealing width, not against the chamber. Then check that the pouch length fits inside the usable chamber depth. Where a manufacturer publishes a maximum bag size, use that figure rather than working it out yourself.
What mil thickness do chamber pouches come in?
Every pouch we verified sits between 3 and 3.5 mil, and one seller states no thickness at all.
Are chamber pouches safe for sous vide?
Check the rating on the exact pouch, because most sellers never publish one. VacMaster states its Temp Plus line is safe for cooking to 194°F, while UltraSource rates its named standard line to 195°F and a separate boilable line to 239°F. Those figures do not transfer to other chamber pouches. A temperature rating does not prove duration suitability, so confirm the intended time and process with the pouch supplier.
Can chamber pouches be reused?
For dry goods, yes, if you wash and dry them thoroughly and accept that each reseal costs you an inch of bag length. For raw meat or fish, no. One listing here states dishwasher safe, most say nothing, and reuse after raw protein is a food-safety judgement rather than a bag-durability one.
Why do some chamber pouch listings not state a thickness?
Because nothing compels them to. We flag that rather than estimating it from a sibling product, because the same brand ships both 3.5-mil and unstated-mil pouches under near-identical titles.
What this page covers, and what it does not
These are the chamber pouches we verified against live Amazon listing data on 2026-08-26, matched against the eight chamber vacuum sealers in this shortlist. Compatibility is worked out from published sealing widths and manufacturer-stated maximum bag sizes only. Mylar and foil-laminate bags are outside this page: no manufacturer in our catalog except VacMaster publishes a compatibility claim for them, and we will not infer one.
